Paris Olympics: Firas Al-Qatousi gives Tunisia its first gold

Tunisian taekwondo player Firas Al-Qattousi achieved a historic achievement by winning the gold medal in the 80 kg weight category at the Paris 2024 Olympics, giving his country its first gold medal in this session, in the final held at the Grand Palais. Al-Qattousi defeated Iranian Mehran Barkhordari 2-0 (4-2, 5-1), recording a special victory for Tunisia.

With this achievement, Qatoussi added to Tunisia’s tally of Olympic medals in taekwondo, bringing its total to four. These include a silver and bronze for Mohamed Khalil Jendoubi in the 58kg weight class in Tokyo and Paris respectively, and a bronze for Oussama Oueslati in the 80kg weight class at the Rio 2016 Olympics.
