The Dutch Football Club PSV Eindhoven announced the death of its player Kees Rivers, former coach of the Netherlands national team, at the age of 97.
Rivers (midfielder) played 33 international matches and scored 10 goals for the Netherlands from 1946 to 1960. He also won the French First Division title with Saint-Etienne in 1957.
During his time as coach of the Dutch national team from 1981 to 1984, he gave the opportunity to play his first international match to players such as Frank Rijkaard, Marco van Basten and Ruud Gullit.
While coaching PSV Eindhoven, he won three Dutch league titles, in addition to the Dutch Cup twice and the European Cup in 1978.
