British Jack Draper (22 years old), ranked 40th in the world, opened his first title on grass tennis courts, by defeating Italian Matteo Berrettini, the 2019 and 2022 champion, in the final of the Stuttgart tournament (250 points) with a score of 3-6, 7-6 (7-5), and 6-4.
The sixth-seeded player needed two hours and four minutes to emerge victorious from his encounter with the 28-year-old Italian, ranked 95th in the world, winning his first title in the third final of his young career.
With this title, Draper will rise to 31st place in the ATP rankings, and will also become the British number one at the expense of Cameron Norrie, the 2021 Wimbledon runner-up.
Draper's coronation comes just hours after he was named one of Britain's four men's singles representatives at the Paris Olympics, alongside Andy Murray, who won singles gold in 2012 and 2016, Norrie and Dan Evans.
