After 40 years, Athletic Bilbao is champion of the Spanish Cup

Athletic Bilbao won the King's Cup in Spain, after defeating Real Mallorca on penalties (4-2), in the match that brought them together at the Olympic Stadium in Seville.
The original and extra time ended in a positive draw (1-1).
Real Mallorca opened the scoring through midfielder Daniel Rodriguez in the 21st minute, before Oihan Sunset equalized in the 50th minute.
Athletic Bilbao scored four penalty kicks that were enough to win the match and win the 24th title in its history and the first since 1984 when it achieved the local double.
Since then, the club has lost the last six final matches that it played in the years 1985, 2009, 2012, 2015, 2020 and 2021, and thus Athletic Bilbao has ended the complex of failure to win the King’s Cup title for 40 years since its last coronation.
