Beatrice Chebet sets a new record

Kenya's Beatrice Chebet broke the world record in the 10,000m at the Prefontaine Classic.

Shebet clocked 28 minutes and 54.14 seconds, breaking the previous record set by Ethiopian Letisenbet Gedi with a time of 29 minutes and 03.1 seconds on June 8, 2021 in the Netherlands.

Shebet beat Ethiopian Godaf Tsegaye, who came in second place, with a time of 29 minutes and 5.92 seconds.

Shebet competed in her first 10,000-meter race since participating in the same race in Nairobi in 2020.

Shebet won the silver medal in the five thousand meters race at the World Athletics Championships in 2022, then won the bronze medal in last year’s edition of the World Championships.
