Sassuolo club and Italy national team winger Domenico Berardi suffered a rupture in the Achilles tendon (i.e. the fibrous cord that connects the muscle behind the ankle muscle to the heel bone), which will lead to him missing until the end of the season, as well as from the 2024 European Cup finals scheduled in Germany.
Berardi (29 years old) was injured during the match that his team lost 0-1 against Verona, noting that he was playing his first match after a knee injury that kept him out for a month and a half.
Berardi was an important element when Italy was crowned European champion in the last edition in the summer of 2021, and one of the players in the starting lineup led by current coach Luciano Spalletti in an offensive line that lacks effectiveness. Berardi scored two goals against Malta in the 4-0 European qualifiers in mid-October.
