Benitez outside Celta Vigo

Celta Vigo, which is struggling to stay in the first division, and which is ranked seventeenth in the Spanish League, has released its coach Rafael Benitez.

Benitez (63 years old), the former coach of Real Madrid in Spain, Liverpool in England and Inter in Italy, began his duties with Celta last June with a contract until 2026.

But the heavy defeat that the team suffered against Real Madrid in a four-legged draw accelerated the decision to dismiss him.

Celta did not reveal the identity of who will succeed Benitez, but according to some press sources, the technical director of the reserve team, Claudio Giraldes, may take charge of the first team.
