Los Angeles Gold... The Beginning of an Olympic Legend

From the moment he stepped onto the podium at the 1984 Los Angeles Olympics, Xu Haifeng’s gold medal in pistol shooting carried with it the story of an epic Chinese athlete’s rise. It was the first of its kind in China’s history, and it sparked an unquenchable passion for the Olympic Games.

Before this historic achievement, China’s participation in the Olympics was very limited. After an absence from previous editions, its participation in the 1952 Games was limited to a symbolic presence. However, Xu Haifeng’s gold medal in Los Angeles was a real turning point, announcing to the world that China was returning strongly to the international sports arena, and laying the foundation for a Chinese sports legend that would continue to develop and shine over the years.

She has won 298 gold medals, in addition to 238 silver medals and 201 bronze medals so far.
