Hasebe retires at the end of the season

Makoto Hasebe, former Japanese national team captain and Eintracht Frankfurt defender, said that he will retire at the end of the current season.

Hasebe began his career with the Japanese team Urawa Red Diamonds before coming to Germany in 2008 with Wolfsburg, where he won the league title the following year.

Hasebe participated in 114 international matches with the Japanese national team, participated in the World Cup finals three times, and led the team to win the Asian Cup in 2011.

Hasebe announced his retirement from international football in 2018 after Japan reached the round of 16 in the World Cup in Russia.

Hasebe (40 years old) has been playing for Eintracht for 10 seasons and participated with the team in more than 300 matches, with whom he won the European League title in 2022 and the German Cup in 2018.
He also won the German League title with Wolfsburg in 2009.

Hasebe confirmed that he will join the Eintracht academy as a coach after retiring as a player.
